quantities permissible for the consumption of a passenger on board ship.

Section 34 prescribes that no permit shall be issued for the export of prepared opium or dross opium from the Colony to China, French Indo-China or any country which prohibits such importation subject again to the due publication of the names of such prohibition countries in the Government Gazette and to the allowance to passengers on board ship of a suitable quantity of such opium for personal con-

-sumption.

In the above part there is again little which is novel and nearly all the sections are taken, with very slight modifications,

from the existing law.

Part III is the general part dealing with administrative and legal procedure, powers of seizure and arrest, penalties and miscella-

-neous matters.

The first four sections deal with the appointment and duties

of Revenue and Police Officers.

Section 35 gives the Governor power to appoint an officer to be called the Superintendent of Imports and Exports and such Assistant Superintendents as the Governor way think fit and confers upon such Assistant Superintendents the supe powers as those possessed by the Superintendent. The Superintendent will be the officer in control and in charge of the working of this Ordinance and all the Government operations conducted thereunder.

Section 36 prescribes that the office of the Superintendent shall be deemed to be a Police Station for the purposes of the

Ordinance.

Section 37 deals with the appointment of subordinate officers as Revenue Officers, with the cancellation of their appoint- -ments if necessary, with their credentials, and with the necessity for such officers to produce their authority when acting in their official capacity under the Ordinance.

Section 38 prescribes that Police Officers shall also be deemed to be on the same footing as Revenue Officers for the purpose of carrying out the Ordinance.
